DIY Northern Brewer Bavarian Hefeweizen Home Brew Tutorial

Ordered my Northern Brewer Bavarian Hefeweizen home brew kit from amazon. I’ll post the link below This turned out really nice and was super easy to make. The kit comes with a nice set of directions. I used my Cooper’s DIY Beer fermenter once the boiling and cooling processes were done.

The steps are super simple simple:

  1. In your brewpot, bring 2.5 gallons filtered water to a boil
  2. Add half of the wheat malt syrup (approx. half of 6lb. container)
  3. Remove from heat and stir it in
  4. You now have wort. Bring it to a boil again
  5. Add the 1oz of German Tettnang hops and boil for 60 minutes
  6. Add the remainder of the 3lbs of wheat malt syrup and add the 1lb of dry malt extract
  7. Cool the wort.
  8. Once cool, (siphon) add wort to fermenter leaving sludge at bottom
  9. Fill remainder of fermenter (to 5 gallon mark) with water
  10. Pitch yeast and add to wort once temp is 78F or lower (not warm to touch)
  11. Let sit in fermenter for 2 weeks then bottle using priming sugar or carbonation drops
  12. Let sit in bottle for 3-4 weeks.
  13. Refrigerate for 1 day and then enjoy.

DIY How to Sweep Out Chimney Stove Pipe

Check out my video on How to Sweep out Your Chimney-DIY tutorial-Instructional “how to” style video with detailed step by step procedural instructions for maximum effective results in cleaning out your chimney. Performing this once a year (minimum) will prevent creosote build up.The first thing I did was grab a chimney sweeping brush. Each section can be assembled and disassembled easily which allows for you to sweep the entire length of your chimney. I recommend you use some kind of fall protection device (fall gear) before attempting to climb on your roof and sweep out your chimney. My roof has pitch that is friendly to where if I did slip and fall I wouldn’t go over the edge. Next I popped the top cap off the stove pipe by slowly working it off. I took that and cleaned it out really well too. Then I inserted the first sections of the chimney sweeping brush down into the bore and worked it back and forth removing any creosote along the way. Started adding lengths of each section and repeated this process until I bottomed out. if you have a horoscope camera it would prove to be extremely helpful in doing the inspection of the inner bore of the stove pipe as you could identify any weak or wearing spots within the bore that you can’t see from the top or bottom. Do as much of a visual inspection as you can while you are performing this. Pretty simple job but can be dangerous if you don’t take the proper safety precautions. This is a great summertime job to do. This is the logical time to do it as the roof is less likely to be slippery and you are mostly done making fires for a couple months.

Welding Art Project: Scrap Metal Cowboy

Check out my Scrap Metal Welding Art Project: Wild West Cowboy. The boots were made from old shoe savers and the legs of course from a large horseshoe. The body came from some old wrought iron fence pickets from a fence I helped a neighbor up the street tear down in exchange for the metal and a sweet gate (which I refurbished and sold). The spurs were made from car gears. The cowboy hat I made from an old shoe saver as well. The guns were little mini railroad spikes someone gave me. The rope and lasso I made from old chainsaw chain by welding each link together.

DIY Quick and Easy | How to Make Spicy Pickled Eggs

This no brainer spicy pickled egg making method is wonderful for a number of reasons. One of the big ones is that you get to reuse your pickling juice from your pepper jar or pickle jar. Rather than dump that juice down the drain just add some boiled eggs and let sit in the refrigerator for a week. They are really really good the longer you let them sit.

DIY How to Cook Delicious Crawdads

We had a great day out at the lake catching crawdads. We used a combination of methods. We used the primitive method of diving down under water, flipping over the rocks and grabbing them. We also used a home made crawdad trap.

They turned out really good.
Step 1: Bring pot of water to a boil and add Johnny’s Seasoning and some Old Bay
Step 2: The crawdads will turn orange
Step 3: Boil for about 5 to 10 minutes
Step 4: Remove from heat and cool. Run under cold water (optional)
Step 5: Melt some butter with garlic. Serve it up at enjoy!

DIY How to Remove Retail Security Ink Tags

DIY Easy Security Ink Tag Removal Process-Quick Detachment Method. Extra care must be taken with regards to safety when using this method as the clothing item could easy get wrapped around the grinder and you could lose a finger or a hand. This method is not recommended for the Ink capsule style tags as the ink will spray everywhere if it gets ground into by the pedestal grinder. All proper safety precautions must be observed when using this method. Better yet, I recommend you do not use this method as it’s highly dangerous. I chose to use this method as I live far away from the mall and didn’t want to make a trip all the way back there to have to bother with the holiday driving, parking, crowds, waiting in line a the store, just to get this tag removed so for me it was easier to do it myself. This actually worked really well and didn’t cause any damage to myself or the piece of clothing that I bought. I just ground the whole thing off a little bit at a time and it only took a few minutes.

DIY How to Grill Eggplant | No Brainer Recipe

Eggplant is an excellent medium in that it really takes on whatever flavor you decide you want to give it, much like a blank canvas. In this tutorial I kept it simple and just did olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper. I make all kinds of versions of this though, making some Mexican style, Italian, and Asian style eggplant recipes. I’d say the best though, are Indian Curry Eggplant Dishes.

How to Grill Mangos | Backyard BBQ Dessert

My love for mango’s can only be shown here when I throw them on the barbie and grill them up. I added no extra ingredients and their natural sugars came out and the result was delicious.

If you really want to spice this process up:

1. Coat with Sliced Mangos with Melted Butter

2. Sprinkled with Brown Sugar or Regular Sugar

3. Cayenne Pepper for a kick at the end

You won’t be disappointed either way. Grilling these mangos is a nice addition to your menu for either just yourself of when entertaining friends. Follow the three steps above to really set this off.

DIY Schwinn Bicycle Basket Repair

My Schwinn Brand Bicycle front mounted basket has gotten a ton of use and has had the weight limit put to the test many times. It’s been a good basket, hauled many things, survived and accident, been left in the rain and left in the glaring sun. It got abused so much so that it rusted a little and broke. I couldn’t see tossing it out over some normal aging, so it seemed like a good idea just to repair it. I used some Belzona, which is a two part epoxy to patch it up. I gave it overnight to dry and then painted it the next day.

DIY How to Weld a Custom “Wrought Iron” Home Security Door

I show you step by step how to weld a decorative exterior security door from scratch using just a PROMIG 140 model Lincoln welder using inner shield spool wire. Video editor at the time was a little goofed up so the video is a little shaky. The first step is to take door measurements. Then head to the metal supply store and pick up the appropriate lengths of square tube. Be sure to account for the outer door frame which gets bolted to the house. Then account for the swinging portion of the door. I used the same size square tube for both. I ordered the sheet metal door handle and deadlock fixture from kings architectural online. It arrived quickly and was around $30. Also account for the flatbar design of the tree as well as the 1/2″ square tube for the jail cell looking lower pieces. The most expensive part was the expanded metal. This door is a security door but since the expanded metal was added it is used as a screen door as well. The expanded metal purchased for this door was 1/16″ diameter holes. I tried to get the smallest they had. This wouldn’t keep the small gnats out but kept out the bees and larger bugs/flies/insects. You’ll need to pick up as many lag bolts as you want to secure the door to the house with as well. Also you’ll need a new door handle and deadbolt. The nice thing about the prefabricated sheet metal door handle fixture is that it comes pre-threaded and specifically made to install any standard door handle and deadbolt. When welding this together extra care was taken not to warp the frame. This meant jumping around welding wise and trying to keep it cool as possible. If you fully weld out each corner joint fully at one time then the door frame will distort and be crooked. While welding I frequently checked squareness as well as the distance from top to bottom and side to side to make sure there was no bowing due to welding heat distortion. Once the welding was complete I sprayed it with two coats of rust oleum primer followed by a couple of coats of semi gloss rust oleum. This custom door turned out very stout and sturdy.
