Doorbell cover made from pallet wood covers up exposed doorbell fixture. Made for free! This was definitely a simple custom job that required some special DIY work. The wires are low voltage but just to be safe I lined the inside of the pallet box with flame retardant cement hearty backer. Once the box was fit up I pulled it back down I glued the hearty backer to the inside of the box then screwed a soda pop can tab to the top of the lightweight box in order for it to hook around the top of the fixture. Although not shown in the video, the box got painted the same color as the wall for blending in purposes.

The installation performed during my “DIY How to Install a GateHouse Gibralter Model Metal Security Exterior Door | 36″ X 80″ # 386847” video was performed on the front exterior door of a house. I’ve installed many of these over the years and all of them have stood the test of time. This was a worry of mine after putting installing the first one in fear that they wouldn’t hold up to years of slamming as well as keeping bugs out. If installed correctly they will last decades. Most regular door knobs and deadbolts can be installed on these. Be sure to take into consideration any interferences that the door knobs you are choosing to use don’t interfere with the existing door knobs. One nice option, if you need to use it, is that these doors can be installed in either direction. Just flip it over so it opens the other way. These can be purchased at Lowe’s for around $150. I used a cordless drill to sink in the lag bolts that come with the door. You can use a regular electric drill to drive the lag bolts however, you may run the risk of snapping them off if you over tighten. I like to set my cordless drill so it will “give” so as not to over tighten and snap off the head. Along with lag bolts, it also comes with a special bit to drive them in.
After taking measurements and determining what door to purchase:
Step 1: Unbox and pull out lag bolts and insertion drill bit Step 2: Shim under door to raise to desired height and level Step 3. Install hinge side of door Step 4. Install opposite side of hinged door square stock and the top Step 5. Install door knob and deadbolt

Explanation of what a dry fire and and what happens in my “Hoyt Easton Compound Bow Dry Fire Disastrous Results | Don’t Do THIS!!!” video. The limbs and string are toast and not suitable for another draw at all. Bow should be immediately repaired. Extreme physical harm has come from dry firing a bow from just the first time but the odds of getting seriously injured go way up if you even fire a bow that has been dry fired before. If dry fitting occurs, do not attempt to pull the string back again and get the bow immediately inspected by a professional at a bow/outdoor shop. Even if you don’t see the damage, it could be minimal enough not to be detected with the naked eye but could still cause injury after being dry fired.

DIY Pfister Brand Karci Bathroom Sink Faucet Installation | Matte Black Finish | Part # 1158237 It’s always a good idea to be sure to turn off the main water supply just in case you have any mishaps with the plumbing valves even though you will be turning them off at the hot and cold under the sink. I got lucky on this one but have had them leak in the past or even crack in some cases due to them being old and part of various remodels. Although this kit comes with an installation tool I still needed to use some extra simple tools as some of the connections were tight up close to the wall so the installation tool wasn’t the most effective in tightening all of the under sink connections. Just a small open end adjustable wrench (crescent wrench) will work.

This is a demonstration on a DIY Pallet Key Chain Holder From Repurposed Reclaimed Pine Pallet Slats Torch Burned for Effect. Got the pallets out of a pile that had a “free” sign on them. I do like to always ask the business owners before I make off with any pallets as some of them do have to pay for them. This pallet project was a simple yet fun one as well as practical. I needed a key rack for the wall so we could get a system down of putting the keys in the same place every time we come in the house rather than having to look for them all over before we leave. In building this I used by table saw to make my cuts, and my cordless drill for the holes and the fastener installation. I purchased some hooks from Lowe’s just for this. I also used my brad nailer to secure much of it as well. I used pop can tabs for the backside for hangers. My daughter was teasing my while I was filming the final result here. This could double as either a hat rack or coat rack as well.
In this Do it yourself 12 gauge shotgun shell mounted coat rack made from old torn down boat house wood and spent shotgun shell I show you step by step on how to make this cool arts and crafts project. This is a great addition to your home, cabin, or shop. You don’t necessarily have to use old wood even though it does add to the cool factor. Just get a piece of cedar or any piece of wood and template out your holes to drill with the spent shotgun rounds. When I did this I measure to find the centerline of the pieces I used so all of the holes lined up right. If you want to offset them as I did in a couple of the racks, just measure out two horizontal lines evenly spaced. Once I figured out where I wanted to drill the holes I did just that. I used an auger bit because that was the size that I had in my toolbox that matched just a gnats ass over the shotgun shell diameter so it would fit in there nice and snug. For visual effect I used a heat gun and gave it a burnt look. I inserted the shells into the holes and used a brad nailer to secure them to the piece of wood. You could also use some epoxy. Now it’s ready to mount to the wall. You could also do this with pallet wood which would look pretty cool as well as keep it cheap.
For this fun and simple Welding Project; Single Horseshoe Coat Rack, this actually takes 1.5 horseshoes. You’ll need a welder and a hand held angle grinder or at least some way to cut metal. Sometimes a metal chop saw is used if you can get one. You take one horseshoe and clean it up really good making the surface of your weld prep area able to accept a sound weld. This means getting it down to clean and shiny bare metal. This will increase your chances of making your weld flow the best. You take your 1/2 a horseshoe and hold it perpendicular to the full horseshoe and weld it so it creates your hook. You make drill a couple holes in the full horseshoe for mounting purposes depending on how big the diameter or your fasteners are compared to the tack holes.
If you can’t weld yourself there are many of these available online and add a nice touch to any dwelling.
Check out my video on How to Sweep out Your Chimney-DIY tutorial-Instructional “how to” style video with detailed step by step procedural instructions for maximum effective results in cleaning out your chimney. Performing this once a year (minimum) will prevent creosote build up.The first thing I did was grab a chimney sweeping brush. Each section can be assembled and disassembled easily which allows for you to sweep the entire length of your chimney. I recommend you use some kind of fall protection device (fall gear) before attempting to climb on your roof and sweep out your chimney. My roof has pitch that is friendly to where if I did slip and fall I wouldn’t go over the edge. Next I popped the top cap off the stove pipe by slowly working it off. I took that and cleaned it out really well too. Then I inserted the first sections of the chimney sweeping brush down into the bore and worked it back and forth removing any creosote along the way. Started adding lengths of each section and repeated this process until I bottomed out. if you have a horoscope camera it would prove to be extremely helpful in doing the inspection of the inner bore of the stove pipe as you could identify any weak or wearing spots within the bore that you can’t see from the top or bottom. Do as much of a visual inspection as you can while you are performing this. Pretty simple job but can be dangerous if you don’t take the proper safety precautions. This is a great summertime job to do. This is the logical time to do it as the roof is less likely to be slippery and you are mostly done making fires for a couple months.
Ordered my Northern Brewer Bavarian Hefeweizen home brew kit from amazon. I’ll post the link below This turned out really nice and was super easy to make. The kit comes with a nice set of directions. I used my Cooper’s DIY Beer fermenter once the boiling and cooling processes were done.
The steps are super simple simple:
In your brewpot, bring 2.5 gallons filtered water to a boil
Add half of the wheat malt syrup (approx. half of 6lb. container)
Remove from heat and stir it in
You now have wort. Bring it to a boil again
Add the 1oz of German Tettnang hops and boil for 60 minutes
Add the remainder of the 3lbs of wheat malt syrup and add the 1lb of dry malt extract
Cool the wort.
Once cool, (siphon) add wort to fermenter leaving sludge at bottom
Fill remainder of fermenter (to 5 gallon mark) with water
Pitch yeast and add to wort once temp is 78F or lower (not warm to touch)
Let sit in fermenter for 2 weeks then bottle using priming sugar or carbonation drops
